To make these cheddar biscuit sausage balls, I started by dumping some pork sausage meat into a large mixing bowl.
I added some shredded cheddar cheese, Red Lobster biscuit mix, salt and pepper to the bowl.
I used my hands to mix all of the ingredients until well combined.
I used a tablespoon sized scoop to portion the mixture.
I rolled each scoop into a ball and placed them on a baking sheet.
I baked the sausage balls until they reached an internal temperature of 165F.
I removed the baking sheet from the oven.
I combined the seasoning packet from the biscuit mix with some melted butter.
I brushed the melted butter and seasoning mixture on top of the sausage balls.
Then the cheddar sausage balls were ready to serve.
These sausage balls can be served with a variety of dipping sauces as an appetizer.
You could all serve these sausage balls with cooked noodles, rice or mashed potatoes to make a full meal.

- Brush the butter mixture over the top of the sausage balls.
- Serve and enjoy!
- The leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator will be good for about 3 to 4 days.
Any way to spice up the sausage balls?
- I love to change out the cheddar cheese for pepper jack cheese and use a pound of hot sausage to spice up these sausage balls.
Does brushing these with the butter make the balls very greasy?
- No, the biscuit mix in the sausage ball absorbs that extra butter as it sits, so they shouldn’t be too greasy.
Can I make these up ahead of time?
- If I’m making these for a party, I like to make the batter and scoop it up right onto the sheet pans and stick them into my refrigerator. Then as it’s getting close to our event, I will take them out and place them into the oven right before I want to serve them so the sausage balls stay nice and warm.
What do you recommend serving with these?
- If you’re looking to have them as an appetizer, I like to serve them with different dipping sauce options like a remoulade sauce, ranch, or sweet chili sauce.
- If you’re looking to make this into a meal, you can serve it with buttered egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or even some scrambled eggs for breakfast.
