- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 cup diced yellow onion
- 1 cup corn and black bean salsa
- ½ cup Heinz chili sauce
- 1 oz taco seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- ½ tablespoon garlic powder
- ½ tablespoon onion powder
- 1 bunch green onions, chopped
- 12 slices bread
- ½ cup margarine
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend

Step by Step Instructions
STEP 1:
To make this casserole, I started by dumping a pound of lean ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat and breaking it apart.
I added some diced onions to the pan with the ground beef as it was cooking.

I stirred well and continued cooking until the ground beef was fully browned.

I spread 12 slices of bread with margarine.
I cut all of the slices of bread in half.

Then I placed half of the bread slices, margarine side down, in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish.

I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the bread.
STEP 8:
Then I spooned the ground beef mixture on top of the cheese and spread it out evenly.

I sprinkled some more shredded cheese on top of the meat.
STEP 10:
Then I placed the remaining bread slices, margarine side up, on top of the cheese.

I placed the baking dish in the oven and baked the casserole until the top bread slices were golden brown.
Then I removed the casserole from the oven and served it immediately.

- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 cup diced yellow onion

- ½ cup Heinz chili sauce
- 1 oz taco seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper

- ½ tablespoon onion powder

- ½ cup margarine

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Dump ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat and break it apart.
- Add the diced onions to the pan with the ground beef as it's cooking.
- Once the ground beef is fully cooked, drain the excess grease from the pan and reduce the heat to medium-low.
- Add the salsa, chili sauce, taco seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to the pan.
- Stir until all of the ground beef is coated in the sauce.
- Add the chopped green onions to the pan.
- Stir well and then turn off the heat.
- Spread margarine on all of the slices of the bread.
- Cut the slices of bread in half.
- Place half of the bread pieces, margarine side down, in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle 2 cups of the shredded cheese on top of the bread.
- Scoop the ground beef mixture on top of the cheese and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of cheese on top of the ground beef.
- Place the remaining bread pieces, margarine side up, on top of the cheese.
- Place the dish in the oven and bake the casserole until the bread on top is golden brown. 20-24 minutes.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and serve immediately.
