Ingredients You'll Need
- Golden Oreos: These make the base of the turkey cookies and hold the candy corn feathers in place. Twist them open carefully so the cookies don’t crack.
- Rolos: Rolos are used for the turkey faces. Their round shape works perfectly on top of the Oreos, and the chocolate caramel combo is delicious with the vanilla cookies.
- Candy Corn: Candy corn creates the turkey feathers. You’ll need four pieces per cookie, with the white tips tucked inside the Oreo so the orange and yellow sections show.
- Chocolate Candy Melts: Melted chocolate candy melts act like edible glue to hold the cookies, candy corn, Rolos, candy eyes and beaks together.
- Candy Eyeballs: These give each turkey its goofy little face. You’ll need two candy eyes for each cookie.
- Reese’s Pieces: Orange and yellow Reese’s Pieces are cut in half to make the turkey beaks. The colors work perfectly for a Thanksgiving treat.
- Red Decorating Icing: A small line of red icing beside the beak creates the turkey’s little gobble. You can also use cut-up red candy if you prefer.
- Parchment Paper: Not technically an ingredient, but very helpful for assembling the cookies and letting the chocolate set without sticking to your baking sheets.

Erin's Tips for the Best Golden Oreo Turkey Cookies
- Work quickly once the candy melts are melted because they can set fast, especially if your kitchen is cool.
- Twist the Golden Oreos open gently so the cookies don’t crack or crumble before you add the candy corn feathers.
- Make sure the white tips of the candy corn are tucked inside the Oreo so the orange and yellow parts show like turkey feathers.
- Add the candy corn right after piping the melted chocolate so it sticks firmly before the chocolate sets.
- Use just a small snip at the end of the piping bag so you have more control when attaching the eyes, beak and Rolo.
- If the candy melts start to harden in the piping bag, place the bag in a small bowl and microwave it again at 50% power in short bursts.
- Let the cookies set for at least 15 minutes before serving so the chocolate has time to firm up.
- Wear gloves if you want to avoid fingerprints on the Rolos while decorating.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, melt the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and use a small spoon or toothpick for decorating.
Substitutions and Variations
- Use regular Oreos: Swap the Golden Oreos for classic chocolate Oreos if you want a darker cookie base.
- Try different sandwich cookies: Vanilla sandwich cookies, fudge sandwich cookies or seasonal cookies can all work as the base.
- Swap the Rolos: Mini peanut butter cups, Hershey’s Kisses or chocolate truffles can be used for the turkey face if you don’t have Rolos.
- Change the beak candy: Use orange or yellow mini M&M’s, Skittles, candy-coated sunflower seeds or small pieces of candy corn instead of Reese’s Pieces.
- Use a different red candy: If you don’t have red decorating icing, cut tiny pieces of red Twizzlers, Airheads or fruit leather for the turkey’s gobble.
- Try chocolate chips for the eyes: Candy eyeballs are the cutest option, but mini chocolate chips can work in a pinch.
- Use white candy melts: White, vanilla or orange candy melts can be used instead of chocolate candy melts if that’s what you have on hand.
- Make them extra colorful: Use different candy corn colors or seasonal fall candies for a fun party tray.
- Turn them into place cards: Add each cookie to a small treat bag with a name tag for a cute Thanksgiving table setting.
- Make a kid-friendly decorating station: Set out the cookies, candy and melted chocolate so kids can build their own turkey cookies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make these Golden Oreo turkey cookies ahead of time?
- Yes, you can make them a day or two in advance. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature until you’re ready to serve.
How do I keep the candy corn feathers from falling out?
- Pipe melted chocolate onto the Oreo before adding the candy corn, then add more chocolate around the white tips before pressing the cookie back together. Let the cookies set before moving them.
How should I store these turkey cookies?
- Store them in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature. If you need to stack them, place parchment paper between the layers.
