To make this cherry cake, I started by spraying a 9 x 13 inch baking dish well with cooking spray.

I dumped two cans of cherry pie filling into the dish and spread them out evenly.

I melted some butter in the microwave.

I added some vanilla extract to the melted butter.

I poured the melted butter over the ingredients in the baking dish.

I used a spoon to spread the butter out as evenly as possible.

I placed the dish in the oven and baked the cake until the top was golden brown and the filling was bubbling.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Cherry Dump Cake:

  • 2 (21) ounce cans of cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.2) ounce box of vanilla cake mix (dry)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 butter cookies

How to Make Cherry Dump Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×13 casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Dump both cans of cherry pie filling into the casserole dish and spread it out evenly with a spoon or spatula.
  3. Dump the whole box of vanilla cake mix over the cherry pie filling and use a spoon or spatula to smooth it out evenly.
  4. Using a food processor or blender, pulverize the butter cookies until they have a sandy texture.
  5. Sprinkle the cookie crumbs over the cake mix, it does not have to cover the entire surface.
  6. Add vanilla extract to the melted butter and then dump it over the cake mix and cookie crumbs.
  7. Use the spoon or spatula again to smooth it out. You could also tilt your casserole dish to help the butter coat the entire top of the dish.
  8. Bake uncovered for 1 hour. Check the dump cake for 45 minutes and if the top is becoming too brown and the inside of the cake is still jiggly you can cover it lightly with aluminum foil.
  9. Once baked, let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!
