 STEP 1: 

To make these hamburger steaks, I started by dropping some lean ground beef in a large mixing bowl.

I added some onion soup mix to the bowl.

I also added some crispy fried onions and and egg.

I added salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.

 STEP 3: 

I used my hands to combine all of the ingredients well.

I divided the ground beef mixture into four equal portions.

I flattened and formed each portion into a patty.

I heated a large oven safe skillet over medium-high heat.

When skillet was hot I added the hamburger patties to the skillet.

Once they were browned on the bottom, I flipped the patties to cook the other side.

After the patties were browned nicely on both sides, I transferred them to a plate and set them aside.

 STEP 6: 

I added some butter to the skillet over medium heat.

Once the butter was melted, I added some sliced onions to the skillet.

I stirred and continued cooking the onions until they were softened and starting to brown.

 STEP 7: 

I added some all purpose flour to the skillet.

I stirred the onions and flour together well and continued cooking for a few minutes.

I added some beef broth to the skillet with the flour and onion mixture.

I stirred until a smooth, thick mixture formed.

I reduced the heat to medium-low and returned the hamburger patties to the skillet.

I allowed the patties to simmer in the gravy for a few minutes to warm them back up.

  3. Combine all of the ingredients well. I like to use my hands for this.
  4. Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties.
  5. Heat a large oven safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Once the skillet is hot, add the beef patties to the skillet.
  7. Cook the patties until they are nicely browned on the bottom. Then flip the patties to cook the other side.
  8. Once the patties are browned on both sides, transfer them to a plate and set them aside.
  9. Add the butter to the skillet over medium heat.
  10. Once the butter is melted, add the sliced onions. Stir and cook the onions until they are softened and starting to brown.
  11. Add the flour to the skillet. Stir well and continue cooking for 3 minutes.
  12. Add the broth and stir until a thick, smooth mixture forms.
  13. Return the cooked beef patties to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for a few minutes to heat back up.
  14. Place the provolne slices on top of the beef patties and sprinkle the crispy fried onions on top of the cheese.
  15. Place the skillet in the oven under the broiler for a few minutes to melt the cheese and brown the crispy fried onions.
  16. Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle fresh chopped parsley on top.
