To make this cinnamon french toast casserole, I started by taking a loaf of crusty French bread and cutting it into one and a half in cubes.
I placed all the bread cubes into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread them out evenly.
I dumped some milk and eight eggs into a medium mixing bowl.
I whisked until the eggs were well beaten.
Then I added some orange zest, orange juice, salt, cinnamon, vanilla extract and granulated sugar to the bowl.
Then I continued whisking until the ingredients were well combined.
I poured the egg mixture over the bread chunks in the baking dish.
Then I placed the lid on the baking dish and put in the the fridge to soak overnight.
If your baking dish does not have a lid just cover it with plastic wrap.
The next morning I removed the baking dish from the fridge and left it on the counter while I preheated the oven to 375F.
Once the oven was preheated, I covered the dish with aluminum foil and placed it in the oven to bake for 25 minutes.
After 25 minutes I removed the foil and left the casserole to continue baking uncovered for another 15 minutes.
While the casserole was baking, I prepared a vanilla glaze.
I dumped some milk and vanilla extract into a small mixing bowl and whisked them together.
Then I added some sifted icing sugar to the bowl and whisked until a smooth glaze formed.
When the casserole was done baking, I drizzled the glaze on top.
Then I sliced and served the casserole.
The orange and cinnamon flavours in this French toast casserole are the perfect pairing.
