I heat some olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Once the oil was hot, I added the chicken breasts to the skillet.

I cooked the chicken breasts for 4-5 minutes on each side until they were cooked through.

Notes

Garlic powder: You can use 2 fresh cloves.

All-purpose flour: This will help create a crispy coating on the chicken.

Boneless skinless chicken breast: You can use any cut of chicken you like, but I find boneless skinless chicken breast to be the easiest to work with.

Capers: These are little salty balls of flavor that really make this dish special. If you don’t like them, you can leave them out. You can find capers in the pickle aisle of your local grocery store.

Chicken broth: This will help to create a delicious sauce. You can use any type of broth that you like or have on hand.

Lemon juice and zest: The lemon juice and zest really give this dish a bright flavor. If you don’t have fresh lemons on hand, you can use bottled lemon juice.

If you don’t have fresh basil, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil instead. Just add it to the sauce at the same time as the chicken broth.

FAQS

How do I store the Chicken piccata?

  • You can store the chicken piccata in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. I don’t recommend freezing it as the sauce can separate when it’s thawed.
  • When you’re ready to eat, just reheat it in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through. You may need to add a little chicken broth to the sauce to thin it out if it’s too thick.

What can I serve with the Chicken piccata?

  • This dish is delicious, served with some roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli. You could also serve it over some pasta, rice, or quinoa.
  • If you’re looking for a light version, I recommend serving it with a simple salad.

What is the taste and texture of the Chicken piccata?

  • The chicken piccata has a crispy coating with a tender and juicy inside. The lemon sauce is tangy and slightly acidic, with a hint of sweetness from the basil. The capers add a salty flavor to the dish that really brings it all together.
