To make this dish, I started by dumping a jar of marinara sauce into a large saute pan over medium heat.

Then I added some frozen Italian meatballs to the pan.

I stirred until all of the meatballs were coated in sauce.

I left the meatballs to cook, stirring occasionally, for ten minutes.

After ten minutes I reduced the heat to low.

Then I placed six slices of bread on a cutting board and spread them with garlic margarine.

I cut all of the slices of bread in half.

Then I placed the pieces of bread, margarine side down, in the bottom of a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish.

I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the bread in the baking dish.

Then I spooned the meatballs and marinara over the cheese.

I sprinkled some more shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the meatballs.

Then I placed six more slices of bread on the cutting board and spread them with garlic margarine.

Then I cut those slices of bread in half as well.

I placed the pieces of bread, margarine side up, on top of the casserole.

Then I placed the baking dish in the oven and baked the casserole until the bread on top was golden brown.

  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Pour the marinara into a large saute pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the frozen meatballs to the pan with the marinara.
  4. Stir until all of the meatballs are coated in sauce.
  5. Leave the meatballs to continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.
  6. After 10 minutes reduce the heat to low.
  7. Spread 6 of the slices of bread with 1/4 cup of the garlic margarine.
  8. Cut the slices of bread in half.
  9. Place the pieces of bread, margarine side down, into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
  10. Sprinkle 2 cups of the shredded cheese on top of the bread.
  11. Spoon the meatballs and marinara on top of the cheese.
  12. Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of the meatballs.
  13. Spread the remaining 1/4 cup of garlic margarine on the remaining 6 slices of bread.
  14. Cut the slices of bread in half.
  15. Place the pieces of bread, margarine side up, on top of the casserole.
  16. Place the dish in the oven and bake the casserole until the bread on top is golden brown. 19-22 minutes.
  17. Remove the dish from the oven and serve immediately.
