FAQS:

How should I store the leftover BBQ chicken?

To store the slow cooker BBQ chicken, allow it to cool to room temperature, then transfer it to an airtight container. You can keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

What are substitutions that I can make?

You can use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts if you prefer, but the cooking time may need to be adjusted. You can use white or another type of vinegar if you do not have apple cider vinegar. For another form of sweetness, maple syrup or brown sugar can be used instead of honey.

Can this be baked instead of slow cooked?

Yes! Instead of placing the chicken in a slow cooker, place the chicken in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Whisk the sauce ingredients and evenly coat. Add the onion and garlic. Bake for 30-40 minutes at 375°F. Once fully cooked, shred in the pan. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure to whisk the BBQ sauce mixture well in a medium bowl before pouring it over the chicken. This will ensure that all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the slow cooker to give the dish some extra flavor. If you don't like onions or garlic, you can omit them or adjust the amount to your liking.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, use two forks to shred it in the slow cooker. This will help to evenly coat the chicken with the BBQ sauce and give it a pulled chicken texture.
