To make this Philly cheese steak casserole, I started by dumping a pound of lean ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.

I added some diced onions and diced green peppers to the pan with the ground beef as it was cooking.

I crumbled the ground beef well.

Once the ground beef was fully cooked, I added some water and powdered brown gravy mix to the bowl.

I stirred until the gravy mix was fully dissolved.

Then I added some garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper to the pan.

I stirred well again.

I left the mixture to continue cooking for a few minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.

Then I removed the pan from the heat.

I added some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese to the pan.

I stirred until the cheese was melted.

Then I dumped the ground beef mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan and spread it out evenly.

I sprinkled some corn chips on top of the ground beef mixture.

Then I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the corn chips.

I placed the dish in the oven and baked the casserole until the cheese on top was completely melted and just starting to brown.

I removed the frito pie from the oven and allowed it to rest for a couple minutes.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Philly Cheese Steak Frito Pie:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef

  • 1 cup water
  • 0.87 oz brown gravy mix
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend
  • 4 cups Fritos corn chips

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.

  3. Add the diced onion and diced green pepper to the pan with the ground beef as it’s cooking.
  4. Crumble the ground beef.
  5. Once the ground beef is fully cooked, add the water and gravy mix to the pan.
  6. Stir until the gravy mix is fully dissolved.
  7. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper to pan.
  8. Stir well again.
  9. Leave the mixture to continue cooking for 3 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.
  10. After 3 minutes remove the pan from the heat.
  11. Add 1 cup of the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend to the pan.
  12. Stir until the cheese melts.
  13. Dump the ground beef mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  14. Sprinkle the corn chips on top of the ground beef mixture.
  15. Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of the corn chips.
  16. Place the pan in the oven and bake the Frito pie until the cheese on top is completely melted and just starting to brown. 8-10 minutes.
  17. Remove the pan from the oven and leave the Frito pie to sit for a few minutes before scooping and serving.
