To make this Philly cheese steak casserole, I started by dumping a pound of lean ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
I added some diced onions and diced green peppers to the pan with the ground beef as it was cooking.
I crumbled the ground beef well.
Once the ground beef was fully cooked, I added some water and powdered brown gravy mix to the bowl.
I stirred until the gravy mix was fully dissolved.
Then I added some garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper to the pan.
I stirred well again.
I left the mixture to continue cooking for a few minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.
Then I removed the pan from the heat.
I added some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese to the pan.
I stirred until the cheese was melted.
Then I dumped the ground beef mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan and spread it out evenly.
I sprinkled some corn chips on top of the ground beef mixture.
Then I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the corn chips.
I placed the dish in the oven and baked the casserole until the cheese on top was completely melted and just starting to brown.
I removed the frito pie from the oven and allowed it to rest for a couple minutes.
Then I scooped and served it.

- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
- 1 1/2 cup diced green pepper
- 1 cup water
- 0.87 oz brown gravy mix
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend
- 4 cups Fritos corn chips
How to Make Philly Cheese Steak Frito Pie:
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Dump ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat along with a dab of margarine or butter.
- Add the diced onion and diced green pepper to the pan with the ground beef as it’s cooking.
- Crumble the ground beef.
- Once the ground beef is fully cooked, add the water and gravy mix to the pan.
- Stir until the gravy mix is fully dissolved.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper to pan.
- Stir well again.
- Leave the mixture to continue cooking for 3 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.
- After 3 minutes remove the pan from the heat.
- Add 1 cup of the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend to the pan.
- Stir until the cheese melts.
- Dump the ground beef mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the corn chips on top of the ground beef mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of the corn chips.
- Place the pan in the oven and bake the Frito pie until the cheese on top is completely melted and just starting to brown. 8-10 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and leave the Frito pie to sit for a few minutes before scooping and serving.
