To make this meat pie, I started by preparing a pouch of roasted garlic flavoured instant mashed potatoes according to the directions on the package.

I set the mashed potatoes aside.

Then I dumped some ground beef and ground pork into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.

I stirred the ground beef and ground pork together.

Then I added some diced onions to the pan.

I crumbled the meat well as it cooked.

Once the ground beef and pork were fully cooked, I drained the grease from the pan.

Then I added some garlic powder, onion powder, ground mustard, ground sage, ground cloves, salt and pepper to the pan with the meat.

I stirred until all of the meat was coated in the spices.

Then I removed the pan from the heat.

I added the prepared mashed potatoes to the pan with the meat.

I stirred until the mashed potatoes and meat mixture were fully combined.

Then I placed a prepared pie crust into a 9 inch pie plate.

I scooped the meat and potato mixture into the pie crust.

Then I placed another pie crust on top.

I pressed the top and bottom pie crusts together around the edges of the pan and then trimmed the excess.

I used a knife to cut slits in the top of the pie crust to allow steam to escape and a fork to crimp the edges of the pie crust.

I used strips of aluminum foil to cover the edges of the pie crust.

Then I placed the meat pie in the oven and baked it until it was golden brown on top.

I removed the pie from the oven and allowed it to cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make this Meat Pie:

  • 4 oz pouch instant garlic mashed potatoes prepared according to the directions on the package
  • 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb lean ground pork
  • 1 cup diced yellow onions
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground mustard
  • 1/2 tsp ground sage
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie

How to Make this Meat Pie:

    1. Preheat oven to 425F.
    2. Prepare the instant mashed potatoes and set aside.
    3. Dump the lean ground beef and ground pork into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
    4. Add the diced onions to the pan with the ground meat.
    5. Crumble the ground meat well as it cooks.
    6. Once the meat is fully cooked, drain the grease from the pan.
    7. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, ground mustard, ground sage, ground cloves, salt and pepper to the pan with the meat.
    8. Stir until all of the meat is coated in the spices.
    9. Remove the pan from the heat and add the prepared mashed potatoes to the pan.
    10. Stir the mashed potatoes and meat together until fully combined.
    11. Place one sheet of pastry in a 9 inch pie plate.
    12. Scoop the meat and potato mixture into the pie crust.
    13. Place the second sheet of pastry on top.
    14. Press the top and bottom pie crusts together around the edges of the pan and trim any excess pastry.
    15. Use a knife to make slits in the top of the pie crust and use a fork to crimp the edges of the pie crust.
    16. Use strips of aluminum foil to cover the edges of the pie crust.
    17. Place the meat pie in the oven and bake until it is golden brown on top. 25-30 minutes.
    18. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
