This sub recipe takes about thirty minutes from start to finish and produces four nine inch subs.

To make these cheeseburger subs, I started by dumping some mayo into a small mixing bowl.

I added some sweet green relish and yellow mustard to the bowl.

I also added some salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to the bowl.

I stirred all of the ingredients together well and then set the bowl aside.

Then I heated some olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

I added some lean ground beef to the skillet.

I also added some diced onions to the skillet.

I crumbled the ground beef well as it cooked.

Once the ground beef was fully cooked, I drained the grease from the pan.

Then I added some salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to the skillet with the ground beef.

I also added some water to the skillet.

I stirred all of the ingredients together well and continued cooking until all of the liquid was gone from the pan.

Then I removed the skillet from the heat.

I sliced open four nine inch sub buns and placed them on a parchment lined baking sheet.

I spread the prepared sauce mixture on the cut sides of the buns.

Then I spooned the ground beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns.

I sprinkled some shredded cheddar cheese on top of the ground beef.

I placed the baking sheet in the oven and baked the subs until the cheese was completely melted and the buns were nicely toasted.

Then I removed the baking sheet from the oven.

I added some shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes to my subs just before serving.

How to Make Cheeseburger Subs:

  1. Preheat oven to 400F.
  2. Dump the mayo, relish and mustard into a small mixing bowl.
  3. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to the bowl.
  4. Stir all of the ingredients together well and set aside.
  5. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the ground beef and diced onions to the skillet.
  7. Crumble the ground beef well as it cooks.
  8. Once the ground beef is fully cooked, drain the grease from the skillet.
  9. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to the skillet with the ground beef.
  10. Add the water to the skillet.
  11. Stir all of the ingredients together well and continue cooking until no liquid remains in the pan.
  12. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  13. Slice open the sub buns and place them on a parchment lined baking skillet.
  14. Spread the prepared sub sauce on the cut sides of the buns.
  15. Spoon the ground beef mixture on the bottom halves of the buns.
  16. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar on top of the ground beef.
  17. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the subs until the cheese is fully melted and the buns are nicely toasted. 6 – 8 minutes.

  19. Top the subs with shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes if desired.

This recipe is really enjoyable! I followed the recipe, however I used dill relish because my family isn't a fan of sweet relish. It turned our great! We will definitely make this again.
