To make this cheesy pierogi and sausage casserole, I started by dropping some butter into a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Once the butter was melted I added some diced yellow onions to the skillet.
I stirred and cooked the onions until they were translucent.
I added some Italian sausage meat to the skillet.
I crumbled the sausage meat well as it cooked.
I continued cooking the sausage and onions until they were nicely browned.
I turned off the heat and drained the grease from the skillet.
Then I removed ¼ cup of the sausage and onion mixture from the skillet and set it aside.
I turned the heat to medium-low and added some jarred alfredo sauce to the skillet.
I also added some chive and onion cream cheese to the skillet.
I stirred until the cream cheese was fully melted.
I sprayed a 9 x 13 inch baking dish well with cooking spray.
I placed half a bag of frozen 3 cheese pierogies in the bottom of the baking dish.
I spooned half of the creamy sausage mixture over the pierogies.
I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top.
Then I placed the remaining frozen pierogies on top of the cheese.
I spooned the remainder of the creamy sausage mixture over the pierogies.
I sprinkled some more shredded cheese on top.
Then I sprinkled the reserved ¼ cup of cooked sausage and onions over the cheese.
I also sprinkled some chopped green onions on top.
I covered the dish with aluminum foil.
Then I placed the dish in the oven and baked the casserole covered for thirty-five minutes.
After thirty-five minutes I removed the foil from the dish.
I continued baking the casserole uncovered until the cheese was fully melted and just starting to brown.
I removed the dish from the oven and allowed the casserole to rest for a few minutes.
Then the pierogi and sausage casserole was ready to serve.
