To make this baked pasta recipe, I started by cooking some spaghetti noodles according to the directions on the package.

Once the spaghetti was cooked, I drained it and set it aside.

Then I added some olive oil to a large pot over medium-high heat.

I added some lean ground beef to the pot.

I also added some diced onions to the pot.

I crumbled the ground beef well as it cooked.

Once the ground beef was fully cooked, I reduced the heat to low and drained the grease from the pan.

I added some marinara sauce to the pot.

I also added some Italian seasoning to the pot.

I stirred all of the ingredients together well.

Then I added the cooked spaghetti to the pot.

I stirred until all of the spaghetti was coated in sauce.

Then I dumped some ricotta cheese into a medium mixing bow.

I added an egg to the bowl.

I also added some Italian seasoning to the bowl.

I stirred all of the ingredients together well.

I added some shredded parmesan and shredded mozzarella and cheddar to the bowl.

I stirred well again.

Then I sprayed a 9 x 13 inch baking dish well with cooking spray.

I scooped half of the spaghetti mixture into the bottom of the baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Then I scooped all of the ricotta mixture on top of the spaghetti in the baking dish and spread it out evenly.

I scooped the remaining half of the spaghetti mixture on top of the ricotta.

Then I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend on top of the spaghetti.

I placed the baking dish in the oven and baked the spaghetti until it was bubbling and the cheese on top was just starting to brown around the edges.

Then I removed the dish from the oven.

I sprinkled some parsley flakes on top.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Southern Baked Spaghetti:

  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup diced yellow onions
  • 48 oz marinara sauce
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 lb ricotta
  • 1 egg, large
  • 1/2 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheddar
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend

Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend
  • 1 tsp parsley flakes

How to Make Southern Baked Spaghetti:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to directions on the package.
  3. Drain and set aside.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the ground beef to the pot.
  6. Add the diced onions to the pot.
  7. Crumble the ground beef well as it cooks.
  8. Once the ground beef is fully cooked, reduce the heat to low and drain the grease from the pan.
  9. Add the marinara sauce and 1 tbsp of Italian seasoning to the pot and stir well.
  10. Add the cooked spaghetti to the pot and stir until all of the noodles are coated in sauce.
  11. Dump the ricotta cheese into a mixing bowl.
  12. Add the egg and 1/2 tbsp of Italian seasoning to the bowl and stir well.
  13. Add the shredded parmesan cheese and one cup of the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend to the bowl and stir well again.
  14. Spray a 9 x 13 inch baking dish well with cooking spray.
  15. Scoop half of the spaghetti mixture into the baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  16. Scoop all of the ricotta mixture over the spaghetti in the baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  17. Scoop the remaining half of the spaghetti mixture over the ricotta.
  18. Sprinkle the remaining one and a half cups of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend on top.
  19. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake the spaghetti until it’s bubbling and the cheese is just starting to brown around the edges. 35 – 40 minutes.
  20. Remove the dish from the oven.
  21. Sprinkle the parsley flakes on top.
  22. Serve and enjoy!
