Ingredients You’ll Need for Philly Cheese Steak Meatloaf

  • ½ tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup diced yellow onions
  • 2 cups diced green peppers
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms, fresh or canned
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 2 eggs, large
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 0.87 oz brown gravy mix
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tablespoon steak spice
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend

 Step by Step Instructions for Making Philly Cheese Steak Meatloaf 

 STEP 1: 

To make this cheese steak meatloaf, I started by heating some oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

I added some diced onions and diced green peppers to the skillet.

I also added some sliced mushrooms to the skillet.

 STEP 2: 

I  added some salt and pepper to the skillet and stirred all of the ingredients together well.

I cooked the vegetables until the onions were translucent and the mushrooms were starting to brown.

Then I removed the pan from the heat and set it aside.

 STEP 3: 

I dumped two pounds of lean ground beef into a large mixing bowl.

I added some eggs and milk to the bowl.

 STEP 4: 

Then I added some bread crumbs and brown gravy mix to the bowl.

I also added some salt, pepper, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce and steak spice to the bowl.

 STEP 5: 

I used my hands to combine all of the ingredients well.

Then I lined a 9.5 x 5 inch loaf pan with aluminium foil and sprayed it well with cooking spray.

I scooped approximately ⅔ of the meat mixture into the loaf pan and pressed it into the bottom and up the sides leaving the center hollowed out.

 STEP 7: 

I placed some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese in the center of the meatloaf.

I set aside ¼ cup of the onion, peppers and mushroom mixture.

Then I dumped the remaining onions, peppers and mushrooms on top of the cheese along the center of the meatloaf.

 STEP 8: 

Then I placed the remaining ⅓ of the meat mixture on top and spread it out to cover all of the filling completely.

Then I placed the loaf pan in the oven and baked the meatloaf for 50 minutes.

 STEP 9: 

After 50 minutes, I removed the loaf pan from the oven.

Then I sprinkled some more shredded cheese on top.

 STEP 10: 

I sprinkled the remaining ¼ cup of onions, peppers and mushrooms on top of the cheese.

I returned the pan to the oven and baked it for an additional ten minutes until the cheese on top was completely melted.

Then I removed the pan from the oven again.

I left the meatloaf to rest in the pan for about 5 minutes.

Then I used the foil to lift the meatloaf from the pan.

Then the meatloaf was ready to slice and serve.

  18. After 50 minutes remove the loaf pan from the oven.
  19. Sprinkle the remaining cup of shredded cheese on top of the meatloaf.
  20. Sprinkle the ¼ cup of the onion, green pepper and mushroom mixture on top of the cheese.
  21. Return the loaf pan to the oven and continue baking until the cheese is completely melted and just starting to brown around the edges. 10 - 15 minutes.
  22. Remove the pan from the oven and leave the meatloaf to rest in the pan for 5 minutes.
  23. After 5 minutes, use the foil to lift the meatloaf out of the pan.
  24. Slice and serve.

I made this tonight and it was amazing. The only thing I did do differently was I used 1lb 93/7 ground sirloin and 1lb hot Italian sausage.

I have made this twice . I use oatmeal instead of bread crumbs, but it is a huge hit. I best write this one down in case I can't find it.
