To make this Philly cheese steak casserole, I started by dumping some lean ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
I crumbled the ground beef well as it cooked.
Once the ground beef was only slightly pink, I added some diced yellow onion, diced green pepper and sliced white mushrooms to the pan.
I stirred well and left the mixture to continue cooking until the onions were translucent and the ground beef was no longer pink.
Then I added some water and brown gravy mix to the pan.
I stirred well and left the mixture to continue cooking until the gravy started to boil and thicken.
Then I poured the ground beef mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend on top of the ground beef.
Then I placed some frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
I placed the dish in the oven and baked the casserole for forty minutes.
After forty minutes I removed the dish from the oven.
I sprinkled some more shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the tater tots.
Then I returned the dish to the oven and continued baking the casserole just until the cheese was completely melted.
I removed the dish from the oven and left the casserole to sit for a few minutes before scooping and serving.
This tasty ground beef casserole is the perfect comfort food.

I had all the ingredients except the tater tots so I substituted frozen hash browns. I’m glad to say that it was delicious!
